Starting Out

​

VeloCam has been providing video referee services internationally for over a decade. From the start, our mission has been to introduce consistent modern standards of video support and enable fast and fair decision making by Judge Referees.

​

The rise of video support in sports such as football or tennis is fundamentally different to Track Cycling. In those sports, the focus for video support is locating and tracking a single ball, and using video support to help make an objective decision, which can be automated in the case of a football crossing a goal-line. In Track Cycling, however, we use video support to make subjective rulings on infringements. This means that decisions need to be taken manually by officials, and it's imperative to have fast access to video operated by specialists in the sport to help make those event-critical decisions.

Successful events are built on experience and great relationships. We have built wonderful partnerships with Federations and Organizing Committees  and used our 10 years of experience to deliver when it matters for over 70 major events across 6 continents.

Technology

​

VeloCam takes pride in staying at the cutting edge of video tech in sport. The simultaneous HD review of multiple camera angles now is a big step up from the single camera that was required 10 years ago! New technical capabilities enable fast decisions that maximize fans' emotional engagement with the sport - both the fans in house and those on live TV around the world.

Community

We are deeply grateful for the 100s of volunteers that have helped us video events while having fun working with such a fast and furious sport! We are proud to enhance the motivation and experience of local volunteer communities wherever we go!

Development of the Sport

​

We are proud to contribute to the development of the sport through our commitment to education. Previously, officials have been trained on written technical regulations and learned their craft when working a different set of events for each official. Federations use the curated VeloCam video archive so that officials are now trained using a standard set of examples from the same set of events. Track Cycling is a fast and furious sport but the result of using standardized training examples is that officials can now have a common shared understanding of where the regulatory line should be drawn.

Taking Responsibility of our Carbon Footprint

​

To be a truly global sport we need athletes and officials from all around the world, and therefore burn carbon moving people and equipment between venues. It would be easy to "pass the buck" and say the carbon burden should be offset by the end consumer (fans in velodromes and on TV) but VeloCam made the commitment to be Carbon Neutral because it helps take Climate Change Action now. This industry-leading action supports the Climate Action commitments of the UCI and National Federations.

Development

​

VeloCam is growing! As modern demands for sports mean video support is required for officials to make for professional level of competition. VeloCam is delighted to welcome Sam Stroobandt. Based in Belgium Sam has joined us to launch and manage VeloCam Regional. This offers cost-efficient solutions to enhance National Championships and Class One/Two events.
